Overview: 7 Days DR Congo Gorilla & Wildlife Safari (Goma to Virunga & Surroundings)

The 7 Days DR Congo Gorilla & Wildlife Safari is a compact yet multidimensional expedition through the Virunga conservation landscape, designed for travellers seeking both primate encounters and broader wildlife exploration within a limited timeframe. Beginning in Goma, the safari moves into Virunga National Park—Africa’s oldest protected area and one of its most ecologically diverse—where volcanic mountains, lava plains, bamboo forests, and savannah pockets converge to create habitats for mountain gorillas, forest mammals, birdlife, and rare primates.

Unlike longer primate-only expeditions, this itinerary balances gorilla trekking with nature drives, conservation immersion, and landscape exploration across Virunga’s surrounding sectors. The programme is structured to maximise wildlife exposure while maintaining realistic trekking pacing, making it suitable for travellers wanting depth without extended expedition duration. Accommodation is based in Virunga’s eco-lodges and tented camps, positioned within or near gorilla tracking zones for logistical efficiency and wilderness immersion.

Pre-Departure & Travel Advice

Travelers departing from Cape Town International Airport (CPT) can connect to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) via Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, RwandAir, or Emirates, usually transiting through Addis Ababa, Nairobi, or Kigali. The full travel time averages 8–12 hours depending on layovers. It is highly recommended to arrive in Entebbe a day before the safari officially starts to rest and adjust after your international flight.

Adventure in the Wild Safaris offers airport pick-up, pre-tour hotel bookings, and assistance with domestic flight connections to ensure a smooth transition from Cape Town to Uganda.
